AYSO runs on volunteer power

This means registered volunteers run the local AYSO programs all over the country. Additionally, our National Board of Directors, National President, as well as every coach, referee, and Regional Commissioner – the list goes on – is a volunteer.
Due to the thousands of volunteers throughout the U.S. donating their time every season, AYSO is as successful and far-reaching as it is today.

AYSO’s grassroots programs begin with a community-based league, called a Region. A Region can range in size from less than a hundred players to several thousand. Each Region is run by a volunteer Regional Commissioner and a volunteer Regional Board. Without a Regional Board including several key and required duties a Region is unable to provide a youth soccer programs of any kind.

AYSO Region 232 is based out of Camp Verde and has been providing a Recreation Soccer Program aka Core Program since it was first established in the 1980s. Today the yearly program averages 100-150 volunteers and 700-850 players spread across the Verde Valley. Region 232 currently provides soccer to Camp Verde, Cottonwood, Clarkdale, Sedona, Cornville, Rimrock, VOC, and other surrounding unincorporated areas.

For questions related to becoming a Regional Board member, please reach out to [email protected] or visit ayso232.org to explore open board positions we are actively recruiting for.

Where: Riverfront Park - Adult Softball Complex - 1284 E Riverfront Rd Cottonwood, AZ 86326

The Coaches Camp will provide training and education by trained and certified AYSO volunteers. Coaches and Parents are encouraged to attend each session.
  • Monday March 16th - 3:15 PM to 6:00 PM
  • Laws of the Game - Learning the 17 Laws of the Game matters in youth soccer because they create safety, fairness, confidence, and a shared language for everyone on the field—players, coaches, referees, and parents. At the youth level, these laws aren’t about turning kids into rule experts; they’re about giving them the structure they need to play freely, safely, and with joy.
  • Tuesday March 17th - 3:15 PM to 6:00 PM
  • U6 and U8 Coaching - AYSO’s U6 and U8 coach training is designed to teach coaches how to build joyful, safe, age‑appropriate soccer experiences that focus on development over competition
  • Wednesday March 18th - 3:15 to 6:00 PM
  • U10 Coaching - AYSO U10 coaching instruction teaches coaches how to guide players through one of the biggest developmental leaps in youth soccer: moving from “me and the ball” to true small‑team soccer with decisions, spacing, and early tactical awareness. It’s the age where the game starts to look like soccer, and AYSO’s curriculum is built to help coaches nurture that transition with structure, positivity, and age‑appropriate expectations.
  • Thursday March 19th - 3:15 to 6:00 PM
  • U12 Coaching - U12 coaching in AYSO is where the game truly begins to open up for players. Kids at this age are ready for more complexity, more responsibility, and more authentic soccer experiences—but still within a development‑first, positive, age‑appropriate framework. The U12 coach course is designed to help coaches guide players through this transition with structure, clarity, and encouragement.
  • Friday March 20th - 3:15 PM to 7:15 PM
  • Referee Training and Certification - Pre-requisite course is found on AYSOU. All are welcome to attend this training. Those that complete the pre-requisite course online and this in-person course are eligible to complete the certification. AYSO Referees certified Intermediate Referee and above can cross-certify to USSF to be eligible to officiate US Soccer club games. Similarly, USSF certified officials can cross-certify to AYSO.
