2023-2024 Youth Mentorship Program Overview
The AYSO 232 Youth Mentorship Program is a multi-faceted, soccer mentorship program designed to aid and assist inexperienced AYSO Volunteer Coaches that are coaching AYSO teams in the age ranges of U6, U8, and U10. The program will provide the opportunity for higher skilled youth soccer players between the ages of 11-17 to mentor a younger generation of up and coming soccer players and athletes. The aim of the program is to provide an opportunity for younger players to learn from and be mentored by experienced soccer players in the AYSO 232 Region. To participate in the mentorship program, mentors must be between the ages of 11-17 years old and should have a passion and respect for the game of soccer. Additionally, they must have at least 3 years of experience in soccer to qualify for the program and must complete all required training as prescribed by AYSO for Youth Volunteers.
The training curriculum will be designed by trained coaching staff to teach a range of technical skills including dribbling, passing, shooting, defending and game tactics. The mentorship program will provide leadership and learning opportunities for mentors, while providing a higher a quality soccer experience for the generation of soccer players below them. Additionally, they will be helping shape the future of youth soccer in the Verde Valley region.
To complete the program, mentors are required to attend seven, one-hour training sessions throughout a 10-week period during the Fall Season and must demonstrate a positive attitude, respect for players, coaches, and parents, and have a willingness to learn and teach. The program has a strict Code of Conduct that all participants must adhere to, including zero tolerance for bullying, discrimination, or any form of harassment.
