Join the AYSO volunteer family and help grow our local Verde Valley soccer community. As an AYSO referee, you play a vital role in creating a safe, fair, and fun environment for young players to learn and enjoy the game. You help teach respect, sportsmanship, and teamwork while ensuring matches are played according to the Laws of the Game.

No prior refereeing experience is required! AYSO provides training, mentorship, and support to help you succeed. By volunteering as a referee, you are not just officiating games. You are supporting player development, strengthening our community, and helping children build confidence and a lifelong love of soccer.

Step 1: Register as an AYSO Volunteer!

The first step to becoming an AYSO volunteer is to visit your Region’s Sports Connect portal and click on "Register Now." For First Time Volunteers: You'll need to create a new account by entering your email address, setting a password, and clicking "Create Account" to proceed with the registration process.

Age Specific Referee Courses

Age Specific Referee Courses
Prior to taking the field, AYSO Referees are required to take the age-specific referee course for the games they will be officiating through AYSOU. Learn how to access AYSOU through your Region portal!

8U Official Online OR 8U Official Full In-Person Course (8U games).
Regional Referee Online Course + In-Person Online Companion Course OR Full In-Person Regional Referee Course (10U/12U games).
Intermediate Referee Course + post course assessments (12U/14U games).
Advanced Referee Course + post course assessments (14U/16U games).
National Referee Course + post course assessments (19U games).

Referee Registration

Fall 2026 Soccer Program

AYSO Region 232's Core program is designed to allow kids ages 3 to 18 years old a chance to play soccer on fair and balanced teams with all players provided a guaranteed amount of playing time in every game. It is also a great chance for parents to volunteer and help support their kids.

Players must wear shin guards during practices and games.
Cleats are not required but highly recommended.
If they would like to bring their own ball, please make sure it's the correct size
Kickstart/Playground: Size 3 ball
6U / 8U: Size 3 ball
10U / 12U: Size 4 ball
14U and Up: Size 5 ball

Although it is our desire to include every child who wishes to play soccer, as a practical matter registration is only available on a first come, first served basis. Many factors can contribute to limiting registration within any division, including but not limited to the number of volunteers and availability of practice fields. Once a division has been filled, a waiting list is created from which players may be placed on a team if another player drops or additional coaches are secured.

In an attempt to balance teams correctly, we cannot accept requests for your child to be with specific coaches, or children to be placed on same teams as other children. Only the coach's own children, and siblings within the same division are guaranteed to be on same team.
