Why do we need this fundraiser?
AYSO is a non profit, volunteer organization. Without our volunteers, AYSO Region 232 would not be possible. Over the past several years, we have listened to feedback from our Volunteers that the burden beyond being a coach or referee has become too great a time commitment. Much of this feedback is related directly to the task of painting fields and game day preparation throughout the season. Your contributions to this donation enable Region 232 to support our volunteers by reducing the time spent preparing fields. Without these donations, a purchase like this is only achievable by raising player registration fees.
Whether you're a volunteer, a parent, or a business; we are open to donations of any kind and conversations about how you can Sponsor our local region through donations. Thank you for your support!
What are we fundraising for?
A field painting machine, discounted annual paint supply, as well as additional field development and prep. The result will be much faster field painting and fewer volunteers needed for the process. In addition, this change means a significant discount for paint cost, moving forward. We use a lot of paint and the cost adds up each year.
Why do we need the paint machine and included paint?
Historically, AYSO Region 232 has been spending approximately $5,000 annually on aerosol paint cans, proper disposal of cans, hand push paint machines, measuring tapes, twine, and other materials to paint soccer fields across the Verde Valley.
Time: It takes substantial time for volunteers to paint the fields throughout the season. Each field takes about an hour to repaint a process that needs to be completed every 2 or 3 weeks. Because we are spread out across the Verde Valley, we have 25 fields in total that need to be painted. Math, and experience, tells us that 25 fields painted bi-weekly from July through October = 200 additional hours that Head Coaches spend painting fields. This 200 hours is in addition to the 2-3 1-hour practices each week, 1-2 hours for games each weekend, and the time spent preparing practice sessions.
Money: We estimate that we will see a savings in the annual cost of paint. While this is hard to project with inflation and the cost to maintain and repair the machine when it breaks; our long-term goal would be to see the savings passed back to our community through reduced time for volunteers AND to help AYSO keep player registration costs low, despite inflation and rising costs for other equipment.
Liability: While we continue to use paint cans and manual painting; a practice that has left many of our hands and shoes blue. Aerosol cans are considered hazardous waste, which requires Region 232 to pay transport and disposal fees. These cans have been left in trash cans or places where they are used to vandalize or damage public facilities, costing our Town/City partners and our region money to repair. Moving to a paint machine also moves away from aerosol cans and reduces the cost, burden, and chances of vandalism.
